After studying at the University of Ulster for his batchelors degree in physiotherapy, Jonathon gained experience in South Africa, USA and the UK. He began his career working in both the national health services of South Africa and the UK were he began specialising in the field of musculoskeletal. Jonathon has since, worked in the private health sector over the last 14 years.

Throughout his career, Jonathon has worked alongside an assortment of sports teams specialising in a variety of sports injury rehabilitation programmes. He also took a core stability class for 2 years which focused on strengthening the back and providing postural correction.


He has completed various post grad musculoskeletal courses, one of the most notable being a Post Cert certificate in Manual Therapy from Glasgow Caledonian. This is part of the MACP which is an elite organization of physiotherapists that ensures the highest standard of excellence in the treatment of muscle, joint and nerve problems. In fact only a very small percentage of Chartered Physiotherapist in the UK hold this qualification. He has completed a Post Graduate Certificate & Diploma in Manipulative Therapy allowing him to specialise in both advanced physiotherapy, chiropractic and osteopathic manipulation techniques across the body.


Jonathon takes a keen interest in manipulations, manual therapy, dry needling, electrotherapy, core stability, ergonomics, biomechanics and kinesiology testing.Most recently he has undertaken training in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Imaging and with now having an Ultrasound scanner at the clinic helps making diagnosis of certain conditions even more precise. Throughout the years he has membership with the OCPPP (Organisation of Chartered Physiotherapists in Private Practise), aMACP, STO (Sports Therapy Organisation) ACPOHE (Organisation of Chartered Physiotherapists in Occupational Health & Ergonomics) and BMAS (Bristish Medical Acupuncture Society). He aims to provide an individualised treatment based on an holistic approach for the optimal results of each patient.



Mark PhotoMark Penn

Since graduating from Manchester Metropolitan University with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy in 2012 Mark has gained over 5 years experience in busy private practices both in England and Northern Ireland.


Throughout his Career Mark has also worked alongside a variety of sports teams, most notably when in Australia he spent time with a professional rugby league team St George Illawaras.  Mark has continued to develop his skills through numerous post graduate training courses. His passion for a hands on approach led him to undertake a Level 5 diploma in Sports and Remedial Massage at the North London School of Sports Massage.


He is able to offer Acupuncture and Dry Needling and is accredited by the AACP and manipulations. Mark’s skill set enables him to utilize different treatment techniques to aid the assessment, treatment and diagnosis of conditions, irrelevant if they have been caused by a sporting activity or by postural and occupational origins.


Mark’s area of expertise is in Musculoskeletal physiotherapy with a special interest in Manual Therapy and the treatment of Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction.


He is a member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP) and Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP).



JacinthaJacintha McGahan
BSc (Hons), MCSP, Women’s Health & Pilates Instructor


I achieved my BSc Hons Physiotherapy 2008 from The University of Ulster. I am registered with HCPC and I am a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

My physiotherapy career began working as a rotational Band 5 for the Southland District Health Board in New Zealand from the period March 2009- March 2010. During this time I completed clinical rotations in musculoskeletal outpatients including hydrotherapy, medical and surgical wards including HDU, Paediatric ward including maternity wards, and domiciliary. During my time in New Zealand I acted as a physiotherapist for ‘Marist’ Rugby team.


On my return from New Zealand I obtained a rotational post within the SHSCT 2010. Within this post I completed rotations in Community Adult Learning Disability, domiciliary, Lurgan Day Hospital, Armagh musculoskeletal out-patients, Craigavon Area Hospital medical & surgical wards & ICU, including on-call duties.


In October 2011 I obtained a senior physiotherapy post within SHSCT and have worked in elderly care & stroke rehabilitation, Day Hospital and Community COPD Teams in Armagh & Newry, which included running Pulmonary Rehabilitation programmes. Additionally I have worked in Daisy Hill Hospital acute, maternity and rehabilitation wards and MSK outpatients. I have worked Lurgan Hospital Stroke unit and rehabilitation wards.

Maintaining my Professional Development has been vital to allow me to develop and learn new skills, I have attended numerous postgraduate courses including:

Virginia Virginia McLoughlin

BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, HCPC, MSCP

My career began with studying a 4 year degree in the field of sport and exercise science at the University of Limerick.  During this time I gained experience in rehabilitation elite athletes at Springfield College, Massachusetts  . I worked with athletes in a wide variety of sports which included: basketball, lacrosse and softball.  While completing my degree I was also involved in a number of research projects and became a published author in the Portuguese Journal of Sport Science.
I graduated with a master degrees in Physiotherapy from the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. Following this I worked in the NHS in Liverpool  as a Band 5 physiotherapist. This involved working in variety of setting which included: care of the elderly, stroke rehabilitation, intensive care, general medical wards, respiratory wards and musculoskeletal outpatients. I then specialised in musculoskeletal physiotherapy gaining experience in a number of different setting. I have worked alongside consultant physiotherapists in an assessment triage service. This involved referring patients onto see orthopaedics, rheumatology, and neurology as well as organising any investigation to rule any potential sinister underlying pathology. I have special interest in ACL rehabilitation and lower limb rehabilitation. During my career to date I have completed a number of courses post qualification which include: Pilates, lower limb tendinopathy management, dry needling, management of osteoarthritis in knees, detection of rheumatoid arthritis .






Simon Collins BSc (Hons) Podiatry  HPC Registered Podiatrist/ Chiropodist image


Simon studied at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh and has also worked within the NHS.  His last 6 years have been spent working in the private sector.
Simon loves all area’s of podiatry but has a special interest in bio mechanics (insoles) and nail surgery.


Simon joined the team here at Active Therapy in November 2015.  “They have made me very welcome and I am enjoying my time here as I can work closely along side the Physiotherapists to ensure the best outcome for patients, I strive for clinical excellence in a welcoming friendly atmosphere”





AnnetteAnnette Graham, Dip Couns, Dip CBT

Annette has been working as an Integrative Counsellor for several years now and has experience in both the voluntary and private sector. As an Integrative Counsellor she tailors her therapy to each individual’s needs, for example, the Pscyhodynamic Approach allows you to understand how your early experiences have a bearing on the person you are today, the Person Centred Approach allows you to decide the pace of counselling and what is most important for you to talk about each week, whereas Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is more structured and focused and is aimed at achieving your goals and addressing the problems that have brought you to therapy.  Both you and Annette will decide with you what approach would be best suited to you.


Annette has level 4 Therapeutic Counselling and Level 5 in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.

Annette holds a certificate in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).



Sophiepic1 Sophie Lane     


With a competitive sporting background in Running, Rowing, Rugby and Athletics, Sophie’s enthusiasm for fitness and sport lead her into a career in the health and fitness industry after successfully completing a BSc Sport & Physical Education degree alongside a Level 3 Personal training course in 2015 at Cardiff Metropolitan University.


Sophie has been involved in coaching and training children, young people and adults for a total of 10 years and has gained a wealth of experience in her previous job roles and voluntary positions in personal training, sports coaching and sports development.


Sophie has a variety of complementary coaching qualifications in a range of sports including Netball, Gymnastics and Hockey. In addition to this Sophie is a qualified Level 1 CrossFit Coach and has extensive knowledge and experience in the mechanics of functional training including weightlifting, strength and conditioning and cardiovascular fitness. Whilst living in Portugal for 2 years Sophie worked as a freelance personal trainer catering to the needs of several local sports clubs and individuals, as well as her coaching role in CrossFit Lagos.


In addition to her personal training career, Sophie was a fitness coach for Venus Netball Club, implementing team and individual training programmes for the players.


Sophie joined the Active Therapy Team in March 2019 and is invested in promoting a positive attitude towards health and fitness among her clients and support them on their journey towards achieving their goals through individual programming, nutritional support and one to one coaching specifically designed to each individual’s needs.

Sharon graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a batchelors degree in human resource management and marketing and as a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Sharon has worked with both large and small public and private sector organisations in the UK as a Human Resources consultant for over five years and has a keen interest in health and wellbeing in the workplace.


As Practice Manager, Sharon will deal with all queries from providing information on treatments available to booking appointments and arranging payment or health insurance. Sharon is also responsible for marketing and advertising, finance and business development, and is the key contact for individuals, businesses and sports clubs.



ElliceEllice Taylor

Reception Team Leader


Ellice has a background in administration and childcare through which she has gained a wealth of valuable skills. Ellice joined our reception team in 2017 and has grown into our Front of house point of contact.


Ellice deals with all enquiries which come into the clinic via phone, email and social media. She can answer any queries, book appointments for any of our services and has broad knowledge of the health insurance companies clients use as she works closely with these.  She also keeps track of our Pilates classes.


Ellice is passionate about Active Therapy and happy to help any client with any queries.






BarbaraBarbara Robinson



Barbara joined Active Therapy Clinic in 2017 after 38 years in the civil service. During her time with the civil service Barbara gained extensive experience looking after a busy switchboard, as well as budgeting, finance, procurement and managing staff travel. This experience has provided Barbara with the knowledge and attention to detail to look after our reception.
